Collisions between warships and other large vessels are extremely rare, with naval historians going back more than 50 years to find a similar incident.~~~~~~~~ http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-navy-crash-idUSKCN1B100C

Tough call for Trump and Mattis. If we leave Afghanistan completely, there is little doubt the Taliban will retake the country. Besides the many lives lost to retribution, there will be another refugee crisis. And Afghanistan will once again become a sanctuary for radical Islamic terrorists.

And then there is the problem of nuclear armed Pakistan that has its own Taliban problem. If the Taliban can topple the Pak government or cause widespread civil disorder, how will the nuclear weapons be protected? We know we can't trust the ISI, which kept the location of OBL a secret from us.

Trump/Mattis have done a risk assessment weighing the pros and cons of staying or leaving and what troop levels are needed to attain our objectives. The Afghan government must be onboard as well unlike what happened in Iraq.

US casualties in Afghanistan have been minimal in recent years, not to minimize the death or injury to any of our troops. One death is too many as far as their family and friends are concerned. So far, this year we have had 11 fatalities in and around Afghanistan, ten by hostile fire including three by green on blue. In 2016 there were 14 US fatalities, 10 due to hostile fire including two by green on blue.
