The writer obviously has not met my Beagle. My wife waits on him hand and foot.

Beagles are known for their stubbornness too so good luck training him past anything beyond a few basic things. It is more like a mutually assured destruction pact where we both have lines not to cross. Even then, it is trust but verify.

Being half German, half Irish, I must admit that there is much to admire in his mulishness. On the plus side, he was rescued living on his own out in the countryside so he knows how to take care of himself by catching various wildlife like squirrels. He could survive a lot while I would be in trouble with a one hour power black out.

Beagles are pact dogs not lone wolves so they get on well with people and will put of with a lot from kids.

I had a friend, whose family came from England after WWII. My friend had a purebred male Black Labrador Retriever. She had a very biting sense of humour and called the dog ‘Toby’.

She named the dog ‘Toby’ in honour of her two aunts who had travelled to Africa and married Black men. After these men got to Canada, both left, leaving their wives with mulatto kids and no support. The good news is that both women worked as teachers, so they were well paid. Their kids were/are left-wing messes.
