I had forgotten about the Eastern Empire. Too bad the Christian factions could not come together in time to save at least Constantinople.

When it comes to Revelations I have given up. So many interpretations and opinions.
I just leave it in the hands of the Lord knowing that everything happens at his command.
Yes, Revelations is scary. It was meant to be in order to show the evil that would grow, but also that the King of Kings will return Himself to set things right.
I also find it a comfort that though believers may be oppressed, the Lion of Judah will Himself deal with the oppressors.
He wins, evil loses.

Part of it is a reborn Roman Empire...attack on Jerusalem from “The Bear” (Russia?). I don’t get wrapped up in it myself. I figure if you do you begin to lose grasp of the critical part, “My Savior”.
