That was then, and this is now. It is either illegal or it isn’t. Words mean something.
If it was not illegal to pray for a president’s assassination in 2012, I don’t think it is illegal to hope for a presidents assassination in 2017.
Both statements are offensive and vile and neither person who said those things is fit for public office, but it is not illegal.
