A search is just that, a search. It may not turn up anything. But if you are conducting an investigation you might want to look in any place where information might be found. You don't have to know in advance.

What might have been found that would justify the murder? What could Miss Damond have had in her residence that would justify that? The paynim guy easily justifies it in his own mind because she was an infidel woman improperly dressed and not in the company of a male relative daring to speak first to a strange man. His Holy Book justifies it, nay, demands it. In his mind she was guilty of half a dozen counts deserving death and the law he observes makes any Moslem the rightful executioner.
