If the rationale is accepted for removing a remembrance of Lee, than the memorials for the equally morally flawed, and racist former leaders Jefferson and Lincoln should be taken down as well.
Yes, Lincoln fought to take down slavery but never came to believe “the Negro” was equal to “the White Man” in every way, not in citizenship, suffrage or socially. And for all his wonderful sentiments Jefferson did not oppose the union when it did not ban slavery, and remained a slave owner unto his death.
My point is that if there is a standard it needs to be applied equally, concerning “racism” and in today’s context and not the context of the times past, because that is the standard the Left-Fascists seek to apply. So, if that is as it is to be, then tear down the Lincoln and Jefferson memorials as well. They were “good men” in some wonderful ways, but in the end still “racists”.
Then when everything historical is torn down, only a very numb today will be left with no history under it.
Yes, Lincoln fought to take down “slavery...”
No. He absolutely did not. He fought to preserve the union, and by his own words, would have continued slavery if it accommodated that goal.
