How does USN know which subs are NK? Wouldn’t want to fire at the wrong countries subs.

US subs are listening to unique machinery sound and probably even norks speaking in nork gibberish inside the sub

Xi sees where this is headed if he doesn’t reign in his boy Kim. No more playing both sides for the Chinese.

Xi has known this for some time but no doubt holding out as long as he could....we knew this would be a testing time for China...and China knew it too...they simply played it as far as they dared to go without seriously hurting their own endeavors. However....it's far from being over regarding N.Korea.

Just a further note.....it is becoming increasingly common for Chinese textile firms to take orders from international fashion brands and then ‘send fabrics and other raw materials to North Korean factories just across the border, where worker wages are much lower, to be sewn into the finished clothes. The clothes are sent back to Chinese ports and exported globally, bearing “Made in China” tags.....

THIS is the trade war the sanctions etc are currently affecting China has concerns about. If N.Korean people can’t work in their factories for China it’s going to cost China heavily to make them in their own country.......

The good thing is Trump has gotten the Chinese to signal that, as long as it’s provoked, they will not be foolish enough to interfere if we are forced to use force on North Korea. So, to the extent the Chinese are not able to control Kim, they’ve given us their tacit approval to take him out.

Good, helpful, informative posts.

I don’t think China will surrender all it’s built up in N Korea for that but it could happen. At least Trump is giving them (forcing them to make) a choice.

Continued.....

The political ramifications of cutting off any large Chinese bank from the US financial system would be really bad for China....not to mention the political ramifications for XI.

In the last sanctions Chinese Bank of Dandong, just across the border from N.Korea, had acted as a conduit for illicit North Korean financial activity and was a foreign bank of primary money laundering concern......and a criminal complaint and forfeiture action was filed by the US Department of Justice against Dandong Hongxiang Industrial Development (DHID), and its majority owner, Ma Xiaohang and three top executives last year.....which didn’t help China or N.Korea.

I hadn’t heard that about the textiles, but it doesn’t surprise me. They’ve been playing us for suckers for so long.

It was said by a veteran trader based at the port of Rizhao who deals in coking coal and anthracite... and a Beijing-based iron ore trader with a company that handles North Korean iron ore ...said the Chinese government stopped issuing permits to bring in iron ore several weeks ago. One said it was two weeks ago the other 20 days ago.

So it looks like they began intitating this ‘then’...and now making it an ‘official’ a announcement. China is all about saving face pretty much above anything else..an 'Offical" announcement carries a great deal of weight for Chinese I understand.....

International trade is a beast unto itself. Most nations have some nefarious stuff going on....including the black markets....the 'rules' are primarily for the giants to abide by but it's the smaller companies that assist them in getting through the loopholes...and that in turn trickles down to the street markets......legal or not it is commerce's underbelly and it does 'provide' avenues for people in those country's to survive.

"But the issue isn’t that he hit what he aimed at .... its that he aimed at Guam and launched a ICBM at Guam, Nuclear or Conventional ."

I suspect that such a move would cost the North something.

How does USN know which subs are NK?

I've spoken with some bubblehead Sonar techs who quite cheerfully claimed they could not only identify name/hull number/country of origin/date of launch and last refit, but tell you how many cups of coffee the galley had served and the color of the Captain's jockey shorts.

They may have been exaggerating about those jockey shorts, but not much else.

I guess Ralph Peters was wrong that China would love to see North Korea bomb the West Coast.

It’s been with us all for a while. Trump didn’t end it. Neither did Lincoln or Kennedy, or repeated viewings of West Side Story and Porgy and Bess. Maybe if they watched Hairspray, people would stop being racists;-}
