Then all cruz had to do was keep his mouth shut. cruz thinks he saw an opportunity to advance his career and hurt Trump at the same time, a double whammy. I believe he was very wrong. crus is a scummy politician, nothing more.
Cruz said nothing about Trump or what Trump should do, so not an issue. But every smart politician is going to be ahead of this issue with a condemnation.
