I hope CA moves forward and tries to leave the Union. The precedent for how to deal with a state that is both actively rejecting federal supremacy and attempting to secede is clear. The end result will involving breaking the state into a number of smaller states and restoring the rule of law (particularly when it comes to immigration).

There will NOT be “a number of smaller states”. A new
state will form from what is now Northern California.
It will be dominated by political conservatism. The
rest of the state can go on their own or go to hell
for all we care.
California can be compared to Virginia in a way.
Virginia seceded from the Union and West Virginia
split from Virginia. The state of Jefferson will be
a modern day West Virginia.
