Agreed. You never carry a gun out of state until you research the local and state laws where you are going with regard to gun permit reciprocity. And there's the trouble with attending any event in DC. Who knows how many jurisdictions I'd have to pass through, besides DC itself, who would want to arrest me. And I ain't leaving it home.

There's a site on the net (should be easy to find with a search) that has a color coded US map showing which states honor other state's gun permits. Makes it easy to plan a trip.
