Missouri police on Monday were hunting for a man who shot and killed a Clinton cop late Sunday night during a traffic stop.
The officer, 37-year-old Gary Michael, died after a man exited a Dodge Nitro at a traffic stop and started shooting. Michael returned fire, but the gunman got back in his car and drove off crashing his car just a couple blocks away before fleeing on foot, KSHB reported. It was not known if the shooter was injured during the incident.
Police named Ian McCarthy, 39, as a "person of interest" in the shooting.

He had an outstanding warrant for firearms possession. Case not disposed. Approx. 2 year old warrant. Hundreds of ‘em out there....
Missouri has the death penalty. And this would qualify for that sentence.
I see many traffic stops now where the officer will angle the patrol car leftward and in many cases a follow up patrol car backs up. It is also possible to run plates so fast that a flag immediately goes up if a scumbag is driving. I know this means nothing in this case but I always think of how dangerous a traffic stop is.
