Mom to state: My daughter's weight is none of your business (GA)
kvue ^ | July 31, 2017 | Catherine Park

The school said it required students to be between the 5 and 85 percentiles as far as BMI, which is marked in the nutrition category, and her daughter was in the 94 percentile.

After Dickens' husband received the letter in the mail, he immediately called his wife and asked, "So, is the school calling our kid fat?"

The letter required Dickens to bring her daughter to her pediatrician for further evaluation for her nutrition and must provide proof to the school that she did so.

"I understand hearing and vision because that affects their ability to be educated the proper way,” Dickens said.

Just remember that food will apportioned to you based on your BMI if we ever get another Moochelle in the White House. But you’ll only be getting kale, brown rice and red beans, so you really won’t mind that much.

Every liberal is a violent totalitarian thug.

And they are as sure as they can be that their authority is in your best interest, even if you have to die.

My son is one solid boy, built like a brick wall. Good solid Eastern European physique.

He’s *obese* by their definition, even though he does triathlons.

This is beyond ridiculous.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

BMI does take height into account.

It’s basically the straight-forward old height-weight tables turned into an equation to give it a scientific gloss - ooh, math - and eliminate male-female differences from consideration.

Explaining how to calculate BMI takes up as much space on the page as the old tables, and either annoys or intimidates most people.

With the tables you can just look and see, okay, if I lost 7 pounds, I’d be in the normal range, whereas with BMI, you have to plug the numbers back into the equation and re-calculate.

Anyway, even if everyone were a healthy weight, there will always be 15 in 100 over the 85th percentile, etc. More math. Does anyone in that school know what a normal distribution is?

Yep! Exactly! And they urged my kid to “turn in bullies” as part of their “campaign”. I said “HELL NO!” Didn’t want my kid to be a government “hall monitor”. Kids need to take care of themselves. If not, the teachers need to step in. They have been told not to by their ‘unions’.

Screw government schools. I home school, now.

My kid was bullied and they did eff all. He tried to fight back but was little at the time. Now, he’s a big, strapping lad. And a LOT happier being at home LEARNING.

Home school or private school

If you think that socialized medicine is bad (it is awful), why do you expect any better from socialist education? For that matter, why does *any* conservative or Christian support government funded/controlled education?

Kids are fat today. So is half the population. Thank the government food pyramid, and the sugar industry.

So, put the child on medication for Type 2?

The simple solution is for the parents and children to stop stuffing their faces with starchy foods and sugar. Throw away the government food pyramid. Eat healthy fats, vegetables, drink plenty of water.

Pediatricians have presided over the sickening of American children. Anyone who has traveled overseas will see that we have just about the unhealthiest children on the planet.

Home school is the way to gol. Your child is YOUR child, not the school’s. He’s better off at home and will certainly receive a better education,

And both my kids will receive Associates Degrees when they graduate HS because we insisted they do “Dual Enrollment “ and NOT take “AP Classes”.

Saves a lot of $$$$$.

The tables say I should be about 180. I passed that weight in 7th grade. I am within 20 pounds of my high school graduation weight, 30+ years later.

The tables are calibrated for a small, thin frame.
