Don, I don’t normally respond to name callers like you and thankfully the vast majority of freepers don’t do that. But, for this issue (guns in Canada), I will make an exception.
Below is a brief statement I cut and pasted off a website styled thoughtco.com. The article is headlined “Canadian Gun Laws Must Be Followed”.
........”Even when guns are declared and the proper forms are completed, Canadian border service officers require travelers to prove they have a valid reason for bringing a firearm into the nation”............
The fact remains that an American possessing a pistol in Canada is placing himself in some jeopardy.
I had two totally professional and impressive RCMP officers IN MY BOAT on the Yukon for about 30 minutes helping me with a mechanical issue. Without their help, I would have been stranded a hundred miles from help. We did get into a discussion of my guns laying around the boat and they “asked” if I had a pistol. I said “yes, many, but I left them all at home”. They both chuckled and said “that was smart”. I still shudder to think what “could have” happened if I had had my .500 S & W Magnum in the boat.
At my age, I am not interested in fighting the uber Liberal Canadian Government over it’s gun laws and I imagine there are many like me. Moreover, the idea of spending my vacation in a Canadian jail doesn’t excite me either.
You should try bringing a firearm from Canada TO the States.
The rules are quite convoluted going both ways. I need to be in possession of either a hunting license or an invitation to a target event before even applying for entry with my firearm.
Then there are the individual states requirements to be complied with. I remember not too long ago some poor sap stopped at his mother’s house in New Jersey while moving from one state to another and ending up in jail because he had a handgun in the car (in a case in the trunk).
Where did I call a name? I pointed out a misstatement perhaps a bit forcibly. That happens.
