McCain relies on the generalizations used by the left “there is no reason”. There are many reasons. McCain may not like them, but they are valid and critical to the operational readiness and combat effectiveness of the U.S. military. There should not be any women, homosexuals, or “gender confused” individuals in combat roles in the military. It damages morale, results in a waste of resources, and results in fraternization and the inevitable allegations when the fraternization is no longer welcome. Mattis’ letter indicates that his thinking is on the same track as Trump’s, so it’s curious why Trump didn’t allow Mattis to finish his review of this policy before sticking out his own neck.

Some of the best and brightest minds in our society are female and they are needed to serve where situations require brain over brawn- many of which are “ combat roles”
But yah. Lets stop the PC about mental illness. Trans is mental illness. Serve as a lesbian - ok just do the job. Serve as a male gay. Ok just do the job. Serve as a chemically and surgically altered and artificially hormonally mind and body altered and sustained being? Um. No.
I think the policies Obama had put in place were to continue during the review. They’re working on the defense budget and maybe thought that starting the medical treatments for transgenders (that probably signed up just for taxpayer funded medical gender reassignment, not to defend said taxpayers) is not a wise use of funds, and does not improve the purpose of our military as Mattis bases his decisions on.
