Not only can the 'source' not count - how hard is it to count to six? - but what does their carrying 'huge guns' have to do with anything? Did she (making a gross presumption here) expect the cops to be carrying pea-shooters?

The reporter is just reporting the facts! Those must have been big cops. Because really tiny airport cops are issued really tiny guns, like the one below.
