And what if he ALREADY did what you propose and Sessions said “no”? Then he’s faced with firing him (which would look bad) or publicly shaming him into resigning (which is seemingly what Trump is doing).

You may be correct of course, but consider what we just heard from Rudy Giuliani (who is good friends with Sessions and Trump and speaks with them both regularly).

When just this week, the press breathless reported that Rudy might be selected by Trump as AG, Rudy came out with a statement that, no, he was not being considered for the position as AG AND that he, Rudy, thought Jeff had done the right thing in recusing himself from the Clinton matter.

To me, this all looks like a chess move.

Rumblings come out of the WH about Jeff being fired and replaced by Rudy, and then, after a pause, Rudy (in constant contact with Trump and Sessions), shoots down that rumor and adds his support to Sessions and his decision to recuse.

Looks an awful lot like a head fake to me.

Oh, that could very well be true. Trump always seems to be a couple of moves ahead of everyone else. For all we know, this is some kind of set-up in-progress to flush out a leaker.
