Well, I understand people not liking being asked for “papers” just out of the blue but, come on. Use some common sense.
This is not like Nazi Germany and you know it. You know what they are trying to accomplish. You realize how close you are to the border and how many illegals stream into the country every day. Just show them your license or whatever and go on down the road. This is not a hill to die on.
Hopefully they will have a many feet tall assistant at the border soon. And no I’m not some cop asskisser. This is a very unusual situation. Help them do their job - a job you likely wouldn’t want to have.

My friend and I were just noting how Americans (even ‘conservatives’ here) love to publicly hate something (being PC, I guess), and then frequent it - in our case, McDonalds and Walmart. When articles on those places appear, I defend them full force.
In this case, it’s like TSA. We want border security, and we want to fly safely, but we, I guess, want it done through some kind of magic. Now if you ask the whiners, they’ll say something like “I know we need what TSA does, but they have no reason to search me, as I’ll never skyjack a plane.” likewise here “What the hell is wrong with the Border Patrol, don’t they know I’m a US citizen?”
