Scaramucci's of Italian stock and he no doubt knows why Roman Legionnaires seldom showed cowardice. For every act of cowardice during fighting action, ten Legionnaires would be executed i.e. "decimated." Since the executees were chosen at random, every fighting man had a very personal interest in making sure his comrades didn't cut and run.
Italians are not Romans.
I posted this incorrectly, as I realized a little later when I was stuck in traffic about 60 miles away from my computer. "Decimate" means one in ten, so one Legionnaire in every 10 would be executed, not just ten overall. It was a powerful way of enforcing combat discipline.
