Govt dictates in every way have driven up the cost of new cars. Emission, multiple air bags, back up cameras, mileage requirements, and on and on.
I don’t mind the cost of safety features such as airbags, but the cost of things like engineering a piece of plastic to save .03 MPG on a truck to meet CAFE standards is ridiculous. Oh, decide to make a change to the headlight or grill, got to re-engineer and test everything else to make sure you are still saving .03 MPG.
Same with back up cameras, while they can be useful, knowing how to properly adjust and use your mirrors is much easier.
