Three Palestinians killed in riots in east Jerusalem and its vicinity amid tensions at Jerusalem holy site; despite claims that they were shot in clashes with security forces, circumstances remain unclear; Friday prayers outside Al-Aqsa mosque in opposition to Israel's decision to leave metal detectors at compound's entrances were followed by small skirmishes which escalated into violent riots across the West Bank.

A police spokesman said police had been targeted by flares in At-Tur, putting the lives of officers in danger, and had employed riot disposal means.
*snip* The Palestinian Red Crescent says 41 Palestinians were taken to hospitals or clinics with injures from live fire, rubber bullets and beatings. About 150 Palestinians were treated for tear gas inhalation.
Four Israeli police officers have been reportedly injured in the clashes after being struck with stones and flares. Ten rioters were arrested after being caught throwing rocks and shooting flares at riot police.
*snip* Police also repelled an attempt to penetrate by force the block set up at the gate as rioters pelted them with rocks. According to the police, order was also restored shortly thereafter.
Clashes were recorded in Ni'lin, north Sinjil, Ramallah, at Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem, Tuqu' in Gush Etzion and in Hebron.

If the end result is that Israel has to take control of the Mount away from the Wafq, then that will undo Dayan’s mistake of letting them keep control of it in 1967.
And a Mount under direct Israeli control will allow Jewish prayers there (and maybe much else, as well).
