His North Vietnamese captors told him hed never go home.
They beat and tortured him to no end, but the Navy flyers patriotism manifested itself in historic defiance, refusing to do the easy thing for his own reward.
He would not accept freedom before other prisoners whod been there longer than he: It wasnt the right thing to do, he thought.
Instead, he gave the enemy hell.
Now he has brain cancer.
And hes 80 years old.
Its the appropriate time to loudly honor this war hero for his toughness and resolve in combat and captivity, but subsequently during his political career.
He has shown an integrity and individualism that goes unduplicated in modern politics.

What tripe.
All to establish the false narrative that John McCain is the greatest hero ever to have graced this nation, especially now that it looks like he will be dead in six months or so.
In truth, McCain betrayed everything in his life that had any value.
Now, the legacy must be mebellished and established.
While I pray for his fight against his illness on a human level, I am under no illusion—this man was and still is a traitor to the United States of America.
Benedict Arnold actually accomplished far more in service to the USA in the Continental Army, than John McCain ever did in his military career.
