WASHINGTON — President Trump said on Wednesday that he never would have appointed Attorney General Jeff Sessions had he known Mr. Sessions would recuse himself from overseeing the Russia investigation that has dogged his presidency, calling the decision “very unfair to the president.”
In a remarkable public break with one of his earliest political supporters, Mr. Trump complained that Mr. Sessions’s decision ultimately led to the appointment of a special counsel that should not have happened. “Sessions should have never recused himself and if he was going to recuse himself he should have told me before he took the job and I would have picked somebody else,” Mr. Trump said.
In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times, the president also accused James B. Comey, the F.B.I. director he fired in May, of trying to leverage a dossier of compromising material to keep his job. Mr. Trump criticized both the acting F.B.I. director who has been filling in since Mr. Comey’s dismissal and the deputy attorney general who recommended it. And he took on Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel now leading the investigation into Russian meddling in last year’s election.

What’s dumb about the comment? It was spot on. He’s a gutless wimp. Millions of Americans who were expecting quick indictments of the Clintons, the Obamas, Podesta and so many others as part of Trump’s “draining the swamp” initiative are deeply disappointed.
Like so many others prepared to testify or otherwise take action against any of these criminals, Sessions was no doubt threatened with serious consequences by these murderous thugs. Look at the recent murders of a prosecutor looking into the Clintons’ criminal activities and the Haitian official with information on the Clinton Foundation.
They are cold-blooded murderers who will stop at nothing to neutralize or rid themselves of any threats to their power and influence and progressive agenda.
Why select Rosenstein ?
He was Mueller's old employee and pure DC swamp . Session has made a few bad decisions .
Pence is Trump’s #1 mistake. Pence is NOT the man in 2024 to finish what Trump started.
2024 is a long ways away. I suspect Trump will meet many young(er) Representatives in Congress that he can replace Pence with. Have Pence drop out for health or family reasons.
Maybe Sessions is scared.
He acts like it.
I've supported Trump as long as anyone around here, and have supported the issues that got him elected perhaps even longer than Trump has, but I wish he would learn to go about some things in a different way. He still hurts his own cause all too often.
I'm liking the idea of a new AG and moving Sessions to a deputy slot in charge of immigration and related issues. They could do that with the recusal as the reason and do it in a positive way. But I doubt they will.
He was trying to get a supermajority, bipartisan confirmation vote.
He figured his colleagues in the Senate who knew him for so many years would support him.
It seems awfully naive. He was confirmed on a strict party-line vote except for Manchin, and every single democrat except Manchin voted no on him.
Sessions also seemed naive in that he consulted with the "career ethics experts" in the DOJ in deciding whether to recuse himself. I mean, come on, the DOJ at the end of Obama's eight years is completely dominated by radical leftists.
What did he think they are going to say? Of course they'll say Sessions has a conflict of interest and must recuse himself. On the the other hand, they'll say Mueller does not have a conflict of interest with his buddy Comey and need not recuse himself. Naive, naive, naive.
But at this point, Sessions should not resign. He doesn't even have more than a handful of his people in place. What he SHOULD do, is come up with a plan to root out government corruption in the DOJ, in the FBI, in the IRS, in the rest of the federal government which was politically weaponized and radicalized by Obama and Holder and Lynch and put at the service of the Ruling Class, like the Clintons.
Asked if Mr. Mueller’s investigation would cross a red line if it expanded to look at his family’s finances beyond any relationship to Russia, Mr. Trump said, “I would say yes.”
This has always been what this is about. The Deep State has known all along there is nothing to the Russia thing. They had all the intelligence data sucked up from fiber optic cables, from emails and telephone calls and financial records and FISA warrant surveillance and everything else you could imagine.
They hit a home run when Sessions recused and Rosenstein appointed Mueller as Special Counsel.
This was never about investigating a crime, it was about getting a shadow DOJ in place to investigate Trump, to search for a crime.
I put the odds at 50/50 that if the Special Counsel is allowed to complete his investigation, Trump will be impeached and removed from office not on any Russia thing, but on something dug up in a comprehensive investigation of The Trump Organization by this huge team of lawyers and investigators. If you look hard enough at any large international company, you can find something.
Sessions appears to be a very nice man. Everybody’s favorite grandpa. Sweet. He was with DJT from the get-go. BUT he is too nice for this job. Waaaay too nice. I feel sad about the whole situation — for him, for Trump, and for us who are waiting for someone to LOCK HER UP!

Well, keeping Comey was Trump’s #1 mistake. But Pence is worrysome. When I watch Pence watch Trump when he’s speaking, I don’t get warm fuzzies. I don’t pick up on any positive vibe or sense of loyalty. (I’m probably wrong; I don’t know.)

That’s a perfect way to put it! That’s why I love Trump. Compared to George Bush’s taking the highroad over and over and letting the press skewer him, Trump is a breath of fresh air.
DOJ could NOT have conducted a high-profile raid at that level without Trump knowing about it.
Trump is known for “setting up” people and events to his advantage.....what he gains from the Russian thingy only he knows at this point.
Let's back up and use an analogy to paint a picture: imagine a HS teen or college 20-something expressing to an older conservative how they will create a more compassionate, caring republic. If the elder has any sense, he will abide to the Franklin dictate that "Wise men don't need advice. Fools won't take it." So, he/she nods with a humorous smile and figures time will eventually educate the young.
What's this have to do with today's politics? Simple, the uni-party are the elders, and Trump is the (figurative) youngster. The deep state intrinsically understands that when/if Trump truly figures out the game, he will logically conclude - as they already have - that the (civil) war must be prosecuted to its fullest extent.
They are trying to remove Trump before his education inevitably leads him to this conclusion. It's really no different than the first 2 years of the last civil war. The Union desperately wanted to preserve a unified republic, but were unwilling to exercise the proper strategy in order to do so. Finally, with Grant & Sherman, the war was prosecuted as necessary to defeat the Confederates.
For the record, I side with the south, but regardless of principle, when war is conducted, it needs to be brought to bear under its fullest extent. That is where Trump is right now, and the uni-party enemies fully understand that he will eventually realize that his only course of action if full engagement. That's why they're trying to knock him out before he can marshal his forces.
No one wants to go down in history as the bad guy, but if Trump cannot defeat the forces of evil, then they will be the ones writing the history. It's a sad situation that the nation has come to this point (again). We didn't ask for it - all we wanted was to be left alone in peace - but Trump/we can't back away now.
