Elected officials are only as good as the people who vote for them. Sure, parties do all they can to get their candidates of choice elected, but in the end it's the voters who are collectively responsible for putting morons into high office and keeping them there.

Obviously, somebody read WAY too much of Ray Bradbury and Edgar Rice Burroughs as a youth, and not much critical thinking was applied in the interim.

Venus was once pictured as a hot, steamy version of earth, and the reality was much different.

I have a project for the climate change people. Reform the surface of Venus into another earth. Currently the atmospheric temperature of Venus is about 900 degrees Fahrenheit, give or take a little, and the content is some 96% carbon dioxide, with about 3% or so as free nitrogen, plus other constituents in much more minute quantities, NO free oxygen at all.

The major ingredient missing is water, which may be there, but bound up in such way it is not available. At that temperature, water dissociates into hydrogen and oxygen ions, and does not recombine until the temperature is much lower. So some way to transfer and radiate off the excess heat would be a first requirement.

Maybe we can steer some “dirty snowball” comets (composed largely of ice crystals, frozen ammonia and some silicate matter) into the upper atmosphere of Venus, supplying the additional water needed, and cooling the overall atmosphere. Once the water vapor cycle is set up, the formation of oceans and weather patterns resembling that of earth could insure conditions in which life could survive and thrive.
