Why did he even run for re-election?
... just to be clear... I’m not declaring a goner. It just seems that being a U.S. Senator is a very serious matter, and *should* not be the sort of job that someone so elderly, and having led such a physically difficult life, should aspire to.
Of all elected offices, US Senator strikes me as the one having the greatest power and prestige and the least responsibility.
