There were a string of them around here (central Florida) a couple months ago.
FWIW, a banker recently told me that banks get robbed much more often than people know about. It’s kept quiet.
it’s never a major heist; a couple of thousand dollars at the most.
Of course, since it’s supposedly ‘kept quiet’, there’s no way to verify whether this is true or not.
Just that I was told by someone who is in a position to know and has no reason to lie.

Let's see.. A bank was robbed 3 miles away from home on Tuesday, another by the same crook 34 miles away on Friday. He was arrested on Saturday. Apparently the moron didn't follow California law and failed to bring his own bag so took one from another bank with a tracker installed.
Bank robberies constantly happen; it just isn't news in most places aside from maybe appearing on the police blotter link when the crooks are taken into custody.
At least twice, maybe three times a week for me. There's an electronic billboard on my route to work, and every time I drive by it, there's a new picture of a local bank-robbing perp, with a request to call with information.
