The Democrats and the media were able to drive Nixon out of office because they were able to depict as someone who went beyond constitutional bounds for his own gain and he couldn’t fight back - we didn’t have Twitter and Facebook back then. And the Big Three controlled everything.

Today, its much more balanced and Trump can put forward his view without having to go through the media. They don’t like it but they can do nothing about it. And people no longer accept their narrative as established fact.

I was kind of young back then, but from what I do know (and do remember), Nixon did a lot of left-wing crap, like wage and price controls (still unbelievable) to try to ‘cure inflation’...sending China on the road to prosperity (at our expense), and imposing draconian regulations on businesses.

When it came time for Nixon to ask for support from his voters...the well was pretty dry. Like Bush Jr. (and Bush Sr., for that matter), virtually all of his strong supporters had reasons to not be happy with him, and like the Bush’s, Nixon got nothing but DISDAIN and HATRED from the Left in return...they were never going to like any Republican, and those 3 Republicans just couldn’t understand or accept that.

Trump, of course, is TOTALLY DIFFERENT than the Bush’s or Nixon. For starters he could care less whether Democrats like him, as he seems to understand, possibly better than Reagan, even, that Democrats will ALWAYS hate him...and so no ‘reaching across the aisle’, no compromises, no doing them favors. For the Supreme Court, it’s Gorsuch and probably Gorsuch clones (no Sandra Dee from Trump). For immigration, if anything, he’s moving further and further right, based on recent articles saying that he won’t support DACA against the Texas lawsuit (God, I hope that true).

But still, your points are good, but we did have plenty of alternative-media options with Bush Jr. as president - but Bush Jr. was so convinced that he could get Democrats to ‘love’ him, that all our tools were next to useless with him (although, thankfully, we did keep Harriet Myers off the Supreme Court). Trump is both able to use the tools available to him, and both understand what he’s up against - better than any Republican in my lifetime, at least.
