They may be big, but they have curves in the right places like the girl in the top picture.
I’m not sure what all of this talk about cars has to do with riots though. You have thoroughly hijacked this thread.
I lived in NYC during the '50s (22nd St between 7th and 8th Ave.) It was lower middle-class then, with many Brownstones. Of a sudden we were inundated with Puerto Ricans. They sat on the stoops all day, cat-calling the women passing by, were generally worthless, and dragged the neighborhood even lower down.
My sister was pulling down $80 a week, which was considered good money. These PRs were all on welfare, drawing down $52 a week. Landlords were renting the tenements by the room and I heard of six or seven to a room, all pulling down that $52.
Then the Daily News reported that a political hack named Vito Marcantonio was bringing them in by the planeload and putting them on welfare, with the proviso that they remember who brought them to the Land of Plenty when election time came around..
Back in those days the NY Daily News used to print the truth.
Try again Skippy
J V Lindsay did not become Mayor until 1/1/66
His reign of corruption and incompetence, continued by Beame’s administration, fostered the atmosphere that brought about the reaction to the ‘77 blackout.
The Media back then were regular bulldogs in rooting out corruption qand were really the watchdogs for the public. They've "come a long way baby."
I was in my teens then and the biggest thing I remember about the Daily news was that they always published their circulation in the upper right of the front page. It was in the millions.
If you played the numbers, you'd check the last three digits to see if you won.
Ah, yes, Marcantonio the bona fide Communist. The only person in the history of Congress ever to run on the Communist Party ticket and win. He actually ran as a Republican-Communist, no joke.
Thank you. I stand corrected. Robert Wagner was the Mayor of NYC at the time. He was replaced by Lindsay. Who may I add contributed to the largest transit strike in the city’s history.
BTW I was on the 12th floor of the port authority building on 9th Ave that evening and after climbing down the stairs that night in the dark and walked from there to Ridgewood Brooklyn.

Where were you Charlie.
Under the East River on an F train. Got out at 23rd-Ely and walked to Elmhurst.
Odd memory, it was the first time I’d heard the “new” NYPD electronic sirens. Sounded like sound effects for a sci-fi movie about UFOs. LOL
When I got home I jumped on my motorcycle and went to the nearest busy intersection (B’way and Corona Ave) and directed traffic until a cop came. Then it was on to a local that was lit with candles for a couple of beers...we didn’t want them to get warm.
It's NYC - it figures. Things haven't changed except now they drop the hyphenated Republican.
I had a Delta 88 back then.

Those grand old Mark IV & V luxo-barges are starting to see some love from collectors. If you have garage space, might want to consider picking up a nice, original, low mile, high option example with no rust while they’re still reasonably cheap.
That’s not a ‘73, that’s a ‘76.
