The Spruance-class destroyers had 3-digits, starting with 963.

Each ship type has it's own list of hull numbers.

For example: USS Harry W. Hill (DD-985), USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62), USS Los Angeles (SSN-688), USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), USS North Carolina (BB-55).
