Well, I just figured out what this was about. Took 10 minutes and 2 cups of coffee.

• The opinion writer is chosen by the most senior justice who finds himself in the majority after the initial voting

• For example, Obergefell initial vote: 5-4; most senior justice of the 5: Justice Kennedy; he assigned the opinion to: himself

• Kennedy is currently the most senior member of the Court, but is widely rumored to be retiring in 2018

• THE NEXT MOST SENIOR MEMBER OF THE COURT IS JUSTICE CLARENCE THOMAS

• Kennedy's replacement by President Trump will ensure a slew of 6-3 (and even 5-4) conservative member decisions

• Therefore, JUSTICE THOMAS will assign EVERY ONE of those conservative member majority opinions

• Thomas is well known for his own writing and is likely to write a majority of those majority decisions
