President Trump donated the first few months of his White House salary to Antietam National Battlefield, the national park in Maryland that preserves the hallowed ground of the bloodiest day of the Civil War, the government said Wednesday.

Mr. Trump’s first quarter salary of $78,333 was matched by an anonymous donor who gave another $22,000, bringing the gift to $100,000, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke said.

The donation will restore an historic house on the battlefield, and will help replace fencing.

My cousin died at Antietam with the 4th NC at the Sunken Road-Bloody Lane. His brother had been killed 3 month earlier with the Bloody Fourth at Seven Pines. No Confederate soldiers are buried at the Antietam (or at the Gettysburg) battleground.

Hmmm... I wonder if Trump can reduce or slow down the 800% increase in the cost of the “Senior Pass” for various Federal lands, Parks, etc.

It’s due for an increase, but, 800% all at once???!!!

Gettysburg has McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried, etc. right there along Cemetery Ridge. Antietam has none of that with the battlefield. I love going to Antietam every year I visit my mom down there. Love that Trump did this.

More of a draw, if not a Union victory in getting the Confederates to retreat back into VA. McClellan had a chance to destroy them, but McClellan sucked.

Burnside’s charge(s) across the stone bridge was a huge and preventable folly. Cavalry was reporting many, many places to ford that creek were available.

I have been there. It’s not a very wide creek.
