I really would like to know how CNN got the Reddit user’s info, and if any laws were broken in acquiring and/or disseminating the info.

My guess is that someone who works for Reddit passed them the information contained in the kid's profile.
I'm not the only one who believes this.

It might be that simple. Then again, a bunch of folks might have been involved. Especially if the cannon fodder lower down had the sense to try to cover their behinds.
