Shortly after the White House statement was released, Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations, said on Twitter: "Any further attacks done to the people of Syria will be blamed on Assad, but also on Russia & Iran who support him killing his own people.

There is no imminent national threat to the United States from Syria.
Syria is not a clear and present danger to the United States in any way what so ever.
This alone should eliminate the debate.
Our Republic is over 20 Trillion in debt. The last thing we can afford is to get involved in another war and creating massive debt for future generations. Furthermore, the possibly of nuclear war with Russia would dramatically increase. After all we are in their backyard. That is just insane and completely stupid!

I’m betting that the “five officials” at the Defense department were Captains or NCOs who probably wouldn’t know anything about this — or someone in the procurement office i.e., people who work in Defense, but have nothing to do with planning or execution of offensive actions.
