>>YOU need to read that. Its in Acts 8.
I have read it. Why don’t you read Acts 8:30-31 and explain it to me. Because as I read it Philip ask the Ethiopian if he understood what he was reading, and the man said “how can I unless some man should guide me.”

Okay. Completely understand, and agree with the outrage however, I think the referenced encyclical may have been from 2015. Haven't read the entire thread, but - when I followed the link in the article, to the linked article in The Guardian.... found that it was referencing an encyclical from 2015 😕 So. Has the Pope issued another more current call for a stronger world authority? Tatt

And as for parsing the truth, thats a special expertise that has uniquely characterized Protestant theology from its infancy, Parsing the truth or adding to the truth by Rome.
Which is worse?

Biblical truth is rather elusive for Protestant Christians which is the primary reason their congregations have, countless times, agreed to disagree and break into separate communions.Thank GOD! that Catholics are all united.
Especially behind their pope!

Well, let’s see. Is it adding to the truth by Rome? Fact is, there are truths of the Christian faith which are NOT mentioned in the Scriptures. Now please don’t ask me what they are because at this point in my life I’m no longer motivated to spend a lot of time with apologetics research. If you prefer not to take my word for it, that’s perfectly okay with me.

>> Is Roman Catholicism not in fact in schism from the Eastern Orthodox? They believe so, if I’m not mistaken
You’re being facetious, right? The Orthodox schism I believe occurred in the 10th century. And as for the various liturgical variations, etc. within the Body of Christ, they are acceptable or rejected by the Church depending on their acceptance or rejection of the doctrines of the faith. And so it has been for 17 centuries.

Heard that...

The Eastern Orthodox regard themselves as the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church, and do hold that the Roman Catholic Church is schismatic. This is factual. I am not being facetious. There are EO FReepers who seldom comment on these contentious threads, I know because I’ve communicated with them via FReepmail. Perhaps they’ll unlurk onto a Religion Forum thread to validate this.
Regarding the various liturgical variations as you’ve termed them, there is as much variation there as there is among Protestant Christian Churches. The core tenets of Christianity are upheld by all the denominations. Of course, being Catholic, it appears that you might want to lump borderline non-Trinitarian groups in with these churches because of a certain myopia as regards just what constitutes Protestant. Mormons, for instance, are about as Protestant as Vodoun are Catholic.

Likely the same kind of blindness the pharisees had that led them to crucify Jesus when they, of all people, should have recognize Him.1 Corinthians 2:1-16 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
It kind of staggers the mind that someone could be so blind to the truth that they go and fulfill prophecy like that, the whole time they write it off as foolishness.
