ABQ crime is complicated by the Indians. They are like ghetto thugs in Oakland or Detroit. And, they claim that NM courts do not have jurisdiction in Indian Lands.
I disagree, I live (45= yrs) very near the rez in the 4 corners and the Navajo are a pretty laid back tribe. Farmington is a shopping hub for the Navajos and they come by the thousands every week. A lot of the younger natives get some college/trade behind them and prosper quite nicely living off the rez, rez life is pretty stifling. I don't think they contribute to the crime near as much as the illegals that flood up I25. The stolen car epidemic has been there for years in ABQ, being just a few hours drive straight south on the interstate to Mexico.
The reservation is a sovereign nation and requires either federal or tribal policing. NM courts don't have jurisdiction inside the rez. The natives are subject to state/local laws off the reservation.

I’m from there. Born in NE NM, raised in NW and SE NM.
Lived there in 1954-56, and 1973-1977. Wish I was back in Farmington, but my worthless borther-in-law (If you know him he probably owes you money) is there and I like to keep about 1000 miles between us.
Oh I miss it!
