If they do get any money for schools, it should come with strings: flag salute in the morning, swear allegiance to the United States, condemn terrorist violence, turn in those advocating terror, and no sharia law.

Can't put strings on just one religion.

It’s just me. I don’t think churches should take money from the government because then the government controls them.

Also, I don’t want anything calling itself a church sucking at the teat of government.

The headline is imprecise. The issue is that the state was giving out rubberized mulch to various civic playgrounds as a safety measure for children, but even though children of non-church members used the church playground, the church was denied a shipment of rubber mulch because they were a church. It was ludicrous to think that this distribution was equivalent to "establishing religion." The donation was not in the form of money, nor was it for operating expenses or instruction.

The mulch was a freebee like government cheese, which some years ago used to be distributed to the senior citizen's club in a Catholic church where I lived without incident.

When the government is paying money it has a return it expects, either immediately or eventually and it will usually cost the church or school or other org more than the money they receive. No church should put itself in the position of taking government money then having to trim its sermons or the gospel for the government. It always happens, quickly or later.

They did, and are.

One of the reasons for the lawsuit.

Several decades ago, churches were considered “public places.” I think it may have been due to a handicap law.

So, churches are basically not “private,” any longer. It is wrong.

Fine. I want Christian schools to do the same.

So you would tell a Jewish school that it couldn't keep Kosher?
