Clinton Campaign Manager: Russians Gave Hacked DNC Emails To Wikileaks In Attempt To Elect Trump
Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook tells CNN's 'State Of The Union' on Sunday morning that a vast conspiracy is behind the release of damaging DNC emails this week. He puts forward the theory that the Russians hacked the DNC, and then gave that information to Wikileaks, who released it at the perfect moment in order to help elect Donald Trump.
"Sources are saying the Russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of actually Helping Donald Trump," he said. "I don't think it is coincidental that these emails are released on the eve of the [Democratic National] Convention."
"And that is disturbing, I think we need to be concerned about that. We also saw last week at the Republican convention that Trump and his allies made changes to the Republican platform to make it more pro-Russian."
"He said NATO shouldn't neccesarily intervene to defend our Eastern European allies... When you put all of this together it is a disturbing picture."
"What evidence is there that the Russians were behind this?" follows up CNN's Jake Tapper.
"The hackers that got into the DNC are very likely to be working in coordination with Russia... They are being released at this time to create maximum damage to Hillary Clinton. And to help Donald Trump," Mook added.
"It is a very, very strong charge," Tapper said. "You're basically suggesting that the Russians hacked into the DNC, and now are releasing these files through Wikileaks to help elect Donald Trump."
"This isn't my assertion," replied Mook. "There are a number of experts asserting this."
[Mook said] ... "We also saw last week at the Republican convention that Trump and his allies made changes to the Republican platform to make it more pro-Russian."
That is blatant falsehood. The chnage that Mook was referring to was in relation to US policy toward arming Ukraine. The GOP policy was strengthened in favor of Ukrain, weaked toward Russia, compared with the previous platform.
