I thought Trump won it by 1.5%.
You are right. I forgot the counties are the same as the district. There is a bunch of Fulton county that is dark D but not in the 6th District.
That is correct, Trump won the GA-06 by exactky 1.5%. I just looked it up, and it was Trump 48.3% to Clinton 46.8%. And in 2012, the district went 60.8% for Romney to 37.5% for Obama.
The GA-06 includes the least Democrat part of DeKalb County (the white precincts in the northern part of the county), which were marginal in 2012 but gave Clinton huge margins in 2016) and went strongly for Ossoff in 2017. The Fulton County portion of the district is its far northern part as well, which is more Republican than the part of Fulton in the GA-11 and is vastly more Republican than the overwhelmingly Democrat parts of Fulton in the black-majority GA-05 and GA-13. As for the GA-06’s Cobb County portion, it is more Republican than the Cobb portion of GA-11 and vastly more Republican than the heavily black and Democrat portion of the county in black-majority GA-13. So while Trump trailed Clinton by 2% in Cobb County as s whole, he carried the Cobb portion of GA-06 by a comfortable margin (as did Handel today).
As of 10:54 p.m., with all but one precinct reporting, Handel is ahead by around 6%.
207 of 208 Precincts Reporting - 99%
Handel, Karen GOP 127,021 53%
Ossoff, Jon DEM 114,390 47%
Take that, Pajama Boy!
