What bugs me about this story is it sounds as if the artifacts themselves are considered illegal. Any SOL for something like illegal smuggling, even if they were able to prove it, should have already passed.

So why exactly are they confiscating the collector’s property?

I hope this stuff remains in the possession of the collector, rather than confiscated and maybe shipped off to Israel where they’ll melt it down or something. These are historical artifacts, no matter their content or pedigree, unless they believe that if you give someone Hitler’s magnifying glass, they will turn into a Nazi?

Well, if you know anything about Israel and Argentina’s history, it’s highly unlikely that they will end up in Israel.

That’s a winner.
