A U.S. warplane on Sunday shot down a Syrian military aircraft that dropped bombs near U.S.-backed fighters in Syria, the U.S. military said.
The U.S. Central Command issued a statement saying the plane was downed "in collective self-defense of Coalition-partnered forces," identified as fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces near Tabqah.

Syrian central command statement. Good translation?
“
The International Alliance (IAAF) this afternoon called for the targeting of one of our fighter jets in the Rusafa area in the southern Rifqa district while carrying out a combat mission against an organization calling on the terrorist in the area, which led to the plane crash and the loss of the pilot.
This blatant attack confirms beyond doubt the reality of the US position supporting terrorism, which aims to try to influence the ability of the Syrian Arab army the only effective force with its allies that exercise their legitimate right to fight terrorism throughout the territory of the homeland, especially as this attack comes at a time that achieves In which the Syrian Arab Army and its allies made clear progress in fighting the organization calling on the terrorist who is being defeated in the Syrian desert on more than one direction.
It also affirms the existing coordination between the United States of America and the organization of the terrorist advocate, and exposes the malicious intentions of the United States of America in the management and investment of terrorism to achieve its objectives in passing the American Zionist project in the region.
The General Command of the Army and the Armed Forces, warning of the serious consequences of this blatant attack on counterterrorism efforts, affirms that such attacks will not discourage them from their determination and determination to continue the war against the terrorist organizations and groups associated with them and restore security and stability to all the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic.

Nothing will happen. The U S already put Syria on notice with an airstrike earlier this year.
This is something that would normally enrage the anti-war left if done under a Republican administration. Ignored if done by a Democrat.
We’ll see where this goes, or if fake investigations will continue to dominate the haedlines. Any bets? I’m not holding my breath.
Who are US backed fighters? I thought the mission was to kill ISIS. I heard a couple of days ago someone saying we may never leave Afghanistan.
What the hell?
We should shoot down any aircraft that is attacking our military. However, we should not have any military at all in Syria. Assad is a thug, but the realistic alternatives are worse. We should get out of his way so that civil war can finally end.
What if it’s Kurds?
” We should get out of his way so that civil war can finally end.”
The problem is this is a big mess created by Obama. ISIS and other evil groups are there. President Trump has vowed to wipe out ISIS.
I think that Trump is generally allied with the Syrian government against the terrorists. But with a cluster-**** like Syria, occasionally mistakes will be made. And Trump has decided that these mistakes (if that’s what they are) will not be allowed.
That’s a very different thing from Obama and Hillary, who invariably took the side of the terrorists and the enemy, and wanted to destroy the Syrian government and hand it over to the terrorists.
It’s not Kurds. It’s one or more (non-ISIS) anti-Assad Islamist group in a temporary arrangement of American support.
There are no U.S. backed “fighters” in Syria.
I am okay with wiping out ISIS. In Iraq, we are (more or less) invited, so I’m okay with shooting and bombing them there. In Syria, we should only help with Assad’s permission.
” US backed fighters” = IS
Bigger news is that Iran sent ballistic missiles into Syria vs ISIS today
Also described as “ US backed rebels”
I didn’t think Syria was fighting Kurds.
Oh well, I am no longer sure who is fighting who over there.
The Syrians werent attacking the US
or the Kurds
They were attacking Islamic radicals aka “ US backed fighters”
Regardless of what McMasters and Mattis are telling Trump, the pentagon is trying to take down Assad and protecting IS as a weapon against Assad
Meet the new boss, same us the old boss
Replace Mattis with Tulsi Gabbard
not good..........
Let me clear it up for you.
Rags who hate the U.S. and Israel are fighting Rags who hate the U.S. and Israel.
Fake clarity posted by one who has no clue about the reality
