Situation Normal all fooled up
The USA has just entered the war against islamists in the Philippines.
And a Philippine cargo ship with massive weight behind it plows into a USA ship.
Coincidence?
Situation Normal all FOULED UP
http://forum.gcaptain.com/t/uss-fitzgerald-collides-with-acx-crystal-off-coast-of-japan/45129/46
Collision was at approx 2:30 a.m. = 17:30 UTC. (Tokyo is +9 hrs UTC)
The first course correction to starboard was at 16:30 (1:30 am local)
The initial U turn was complete by 17:10 UTC.
There was a second turn to port at 17:38 UTC when traveling at 9.9 knots.
Collision occurs during this time period.
The next AIS reading is at 17:52 with ship headed East (90 degree) at <4 knot, then it turns north....loitering slowly... and then resumes course to the east at approx 19:00 UTC back at full speed.

I probably have the wrong body of water but the USS Cole I think is what I remember
It is incomprehensible. In a situation like this, it takes two to tango. Maybe one crew was completely incompetent, but both at the same time?
yeah, I have a .22 Henry they call an Ak47
How would such a vessel not appear on radar?
How the hell does THAT happen?
Possible mooselimb attempt?
Man, if you were some mooselimb and took out a U.S. naval ship you’d be as famous as mickey mouse
The collision was the second in the region for US Navy warship in just over a month.
On May 9, the guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain was struck by a South Korean
fishing boat off the Korean Peninsula.
No injuries were reported from that incident, which a Navy official said occurred when
the fishing boats crew did not have a radio to hear warnings from the US warship.
Further, if her transponder was off, where did all these track recordings that we are seeing come from?
I simply added that there are rumors that radar jamming technology has been developed that could blind a ship.
It is hard to imagine an Aegis destroyer colliding in open seas with a radar visible cargo ship, whether by accident or intentionally--even if said cargo ship had turned off its running lights and transponder.
There is a mystery here. I have no idea what happened.
But then, of course, neither do you.
Really.
The new military in action. Maybe the CO was a female or transgender who got her panties in a wad over something one of the guys said to her while she was on the bridge. Or else it was just the wrong time of the month.
It crushed the captain’s quarters, I read. Were they aiming for it?
The ‘moms’ account not withstanding, it’s looking intentional. Some Islamist at the helm who got lucky. Maybe lucky isn’t the word. More of a calculated risk on the chance they get exactly the quality of sailor who was on duty.
Possible NK angle here? Japanese company reported to be operating the cargo ship at the time of the collision. Lots of NK agents in Japan and Korea.
