A bill allowing the starvation and dehydration of dementia and mentally ill patients against their will passed the Oregon Senate 17-13 on June 8.

SB494 would remove safeguards in Oregon law that protect the right of patients to receive food and water as part of basic treatment. It would give healthcare representatives power to potentially coerce doctors into starving patients against their will.

This poster circa 1938 in support of the Nazi regime's T-4 euthanasia program reads: "60,000 Reichsmark is what this person suffering from a hereditary defect costs the People's community during his lifetime. Fellow citizen, that is your money too."

I remember an interview with a women who came out of coma after being dehydrated and talking about painful it was.

Yet hospice will tell you it's a pleasant experience for the patient. Families want to hear that. But it's not true.

“Yet hospice will tell you it’s a pleasant experience for the patient. Families want to hear that. But it’s not true.”

Where would you suggested thermally ill patients go to die and have a pleasant experience?

This is already being done and is called “Comfort Care” in the best Orwellian manner.

They interpret every unclear vocalization as “pain”, administer heavy doses of narcotics so the person loses consciousness. Every time the person wakes up and groans, dehydrated and with the mother of all hangovers, they are given more narcotics.

Dehydration eventually affects their organs ability to process the opiates and eventually they stop breathing whether from dehydration or overdose.

This is great if you are cancer ridden and in horrible pain, but they apply this standard of care to dementia patients who aren’t terminally ill too, especially if they are troublesome.

There is an opiate epidemic in this country, only it’s not the one the news is telling about.

Doesn’t elder abuse entail starvation?

Why wouldn’t an overdose be endorsed? They are both murder.

“Well” the liberal lawyer countered, “technically the individual is responsible to feed themselves. If not then that would be type to self annihilation or perhaps even suicide, technically speaking of course.” I squinted at the painful thought of starvation as a pow, “oh, but of course. It all makes perfect sense.” But my mind was reeling at the stone cold rattling off of the well rehearsed justification. I shook my head and thought “it ducks growing old in this liberal culture.”

Looks like an Obama/DNC Obamacare ad.

Somebody should add Pajama Boy to that with his cup of hot chocolate.

I still stand amazed at the stupidity and evil they can sell to some people. It just boggles the mind.

Not only is this deprivation of life without due process, it is also cruel and unusual punishment.

But maybe the leftists should be executed this way as a test case. That, or having their bodies torn apart with parts sold to the highest bidder the way they do with abortion.

A good way to kill this legislation would be an amendment that prisoners on death row or imprisoned for life could choose to take a “black pill” that would kill them.

It would contain say 20mg of Carfentanil, which is enough to kill several people and is readily available and cheap.

The trick is that those same liberals who are more than happy to kill unborn children, the incapacitated and elderly, blanch in horror at the very idea of savage multiple killers being put down. They would kill the whole bill rather than let that section pass.

I don’t know why they bothered to pass this, it really wasn’t needed since you already have Hospice that does this everyday all over the country.

We never had a debate on the Ethical and Moral issues of Hospice, we just accepted it because we were sold the concept that it was a just, merciful way to deal with terminal disease, except that Hospice is not about just about those with terminal diseases, it is for old people, or anyone that wants to die, or where families think this what should happen.

Or, take a medical vacation to Mexico and buy a knee. Since the progressive changes to our health care system under Bush and Obama, Medical Mexico has become a booming business.

However, being irritating in a hospital at our age is very dangerous. My Grandma chewed out a nurse at a hospital one night who was very rude, next morning she was dead. Seems that nurse made a mistake with her meds that night.

Good post, good replies. My question is this - in matters of life and death, does the State Senate have authority to act without a referendum? The voters should decide matters such as this, NOT the damned State Senate!

“Not only is this deprivation of life without due process, it is also cruel and unusual punishment.”

There are no 4th, 5th, 8th or 14th Amendment issues with this case.

They’re just trying to let people know that if they couldn’t get them before they were born or during their younger lives.. They’ll definitely get them if they’re labeled a certain way or make it to old age.
