Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) is urging Republicans to defend special counsel Robert Mueller amid a new wave of criticism from some prominent conservatives of the person leading the probe into Russia's election interference.
"Id urge that these attacks on Mr. Mueller be ceased, and that my friends on the other side of the aisle join me in defending his reputation. The critics are going a little too far here," Schumer said from the Senate floor.
Schumer added that if President Trump is weighing asking Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to fire Mueller, he should "look back in time and see what happened to a president who tried to do the same thing."
"If the White House truly has nothing to hide, they ought to encourage special counsel Mueller to investigate. They should let him do his job. When people say when theres smoke, theres fire, theyre pointing to actions like this, and it makes the American people distrustful of the White House and their allies," he said.

“Whatever Shmuckie says, do the opposite.”
I have found that, politically speaking, it is best to do the opposite of whatever it is that Upchuck Schemer really wants you to do. The only question here is whether he really means this, or that he knows the instinctive reaction people will have and wants us to THINK that he wants this (when he doesn’t).

Here's the strategy for Mr. Trump.
Fire the Special counsel and demand an immediate impeachment trial in the Senate. Let them put their cards on the table(which they have none). The whole thing will fall apart.
Trump needs to go head on onto the fire just like Omaha beach in '44. He has no choice.

"Id urge that these attacks on Mr. Mueller be ceased, and that my friends on the other side of the aisle join me in defending his reputation. The critics are going a little too far here," Schumer said from the Senate floor.Schumer would be credible if he asked Mueller to respond to the concerns about his impartiality.
What is the underlying criminal probe? Is there one? Rumors do not rise to the threshold of criminal activity.
Is Muelller predisposed to believe his friend Comey? They have been fast friends for 15 years, vacationing together, etc.
The fact that Comey leaked the memo places him in some legal jeopardy. He could be charged with two federal violations. Will Mueller investigate his dear friend in a fair manner?
Mueller should step down as special counsel or recuse himself from any aspect of the investigation involving Comey because he clearly has a conflict of interest.
Schumer should pursue getting Mueller to step down or explain how he can be impartial, instead of spewing forth nonsense.
