Yes, I totally agree that 7.62 X 39 is on the low end of high powered and could even be considered not high powered. I grew up shooting my dad's Remington 30-06 in the desert which unfortunately was ripped off from him by a worker in his last years.

You get my point that liberal news media find a phrase that makes guns seem more "dangerous" and use it for no reason. Yes, "high powered" might be more "dangerous" shooting through a door. But, nobody was shooting through a door in this case. It's totally irrelevant. They just know hoplophobes will get an extra shiver.

I like 7.62 x 39, too. It's fun to shoot and I agree with you about "AK" style rifles, too.

I understand your point and agree completely. In this case the cartridge chosen made very little (if any) difference as compared to a cartridge with more case volume for more propellant but a similar sized projectile. The terminology chosen by the media is intended to push the left’s agenda against the second amendment. As compared to a handgun cartridge, any 30 caliber rifle cartridge such as 7.62x39 is “high powered”.

We own a BM-59 semi-auto which is basically a Garand that has been re-chambered to 7.62×51mm NATO and fitted with a 30 cartridge magazine. It is very fun to shoot, but how much more dangerous would it actually be in the hands of an idiot. Effectively, not much other than slightly more impressive noise that it makes.

So sorry to hear about your dad's Remington being stolen. My grandfather's entire collection of vintage rifles was stolen many years ago. I was devastated. We also knew for sure who took them, but couldn't do anything about it.
