I suspect Scalise’s condition at the ball field was originally critical but stable. The “critical” designation was likely withheld pending notification of family, etc.

I agree with your comment, NN. That he is still alive post surgery is good news indeed, but his injury (from news reports of its location) is pretty severe. While everybody was reporting today that he was stable but would be OK was IMO "chin up, soldier on" talk. I was concerned by his look as he was being put into the ambulance and am very glad to read that he went to WHC.

I'm still praying, though.
