Government Officials Try To Ban People Who Hold 'Wrong' Beliefs
Forbes ^ | June 10, 2017 | George Leef

America’s hyper-politicization continues to grow apace. We now find public officials who regard themselves as “progressive” attacking citizens who don’t happen to agree with every aspect of their agenda (i.e., state regulation of just about everything). A revealing case like that has just surfaced in Michigan.

Steve Tennes owns a farm (called The Country Mill) in the small town of Charlotte in south-central Michigan. He grows a variety of fruit and for years has been trucking some of it to sell in the public Farmers Market in East Lansing, about twenty miles away.

The buying and selling of produce used to be a matter of pure commerce, untainted by politics, but now East Lansing officials have banned Tennes from their market because he did something unpardonable—he declined to do a same-sex wedding on his property (which isn’t even in the same county as East Lansing). Once that came to light, city officials decided to strike back at him through their regulatory powers.

Here’s how this story unfolded.

In 2014, a gay couple wanted an orchard wedding at The Country Mill, which is something Tennes offers. But he turned these two women down because of his religious belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman. He suggested that they try another farm in the area and the two were subsequently married in 2015. The following year, however, one of the two women wrote a Facebook post in which she urged consumers not to do business with Country Mill due to the owner’s discrimination against gay couples.

In doing that, she was perfectly within her rights. People are free to denounce merchants and advocate boycotts against them if they wish.

But we know what the East Lansing officials would have done or said if this guy were Muslim. Basically nothing.

“I don’t think we’re in America anymore.”

The long slow process of leftist revolution is coming to a head with the subversives of the Democrat Party icing the stinking cake of leftist tyranny.

IMHO

I’ve seen similar reports for years, first starting in all the English speaking countries. Great Britain, then Australia, then Canada, now finally in our own United States.
Good for this farmer. Being ‘sad’ about the unfairness of it all is not enough.

You have to use the available (for now anyway) laws and sue these organizations for as much as it takes to get their attention. It also helps to publicize the even widely and loudly. This warns the rest of us that our rights are being actively eroded, ignored and taken away unless we fight back.

I truly hope that at some stage we reach a tipping point and the “silent majority” becomes “unsilent” and kicks back...Extremely kicks back...HARD!!!!!!!!!!

Just the other day, Se. Bernie Sanders was grilling Trump’s nominee for an assistant budget position about his beliefs on heaven and hell! A fe weeks ago, the chairman of the DNC was ranting and raving that no one who opposes abortion should ever get the support of the Democratic Party. Democrats want traditional Christians barred from both public life and business life. They want them barred from medicine, education, pharmacy, social work, psychology, and a host of other professions.

I would consult a qualified attorney before advocating any economic boycott.

Government loves money, which comes from taxes on sales.

But he turned these two women down because of his religious belief that marriage should be between a man and a woman.

It's a religious belief based in biological reality. Male-female pairing is observed throughout the animal kingdom, with good reason: it is necessary for species to survive. A "marriage" between two women or two men cannot exist, because it is not the biological mechanism to ensure propagation of the species. While they can be together for whatever reason they want, their being together cannot result in natural children, and has no biological purpose--so is not marriage.

So, a Christian network needs to be established, and Christians should patronize that network.

Mayor Mark Meadows stated that while the family is free to hold their religious beliefs, “This is about them operating a business that discriminates against LGBT individuals and that’s a whole different issue.”

Mayor Mark Meadows should be remembered on Election Day.

His opponents should be sure to remind voters his view of Freedom of Religion, his view of Freedom of Association and his ideas that people that hold traditional values should be punished for living their lives according to those values.

If I shop at WalMart instead of Target, you could say I discriminate. However,I don’t actively advocate FOR WalMart or AGAINST Target. I think most people would look at it this way without much of a problem & the government would best serve by staying out of it.
