Immigration was ratcheted down most in the ‘30s, ‘40s, and early ‘50s. Sometimes the years ‘25 through ‘65 are called ‘The Great Pause’ in immigration.

The early ‘20s saw a reduction in the massive immigration of previous decades, but didn’t stop it by any stretch. What happened then was an attempt to exclude Easter and Southern Europeans and Jews.

That era, BTW, was the beginning of Jews’ devotion to Democrats. World War I and its aftermath were disastrous for Jews, and the US under Republicans was closing as a refuge for them.
