We have a (neutered) male that sometimes gets carried away & bites. My SO’s technique is to pull away his hand & very dramatically cry out in pain. Then he refuses to pet the cat for a while. Milo (the cat) seems to realize that he was too rough & tries to make up for it. At least until he gets carried away again...
