At minimum, a hefty fine followed by immediate deportation and a 10 yr prison sentence if they reoffended.

Thailand is a mess with respect to visas and citizenship. Even with a Thai spouse, citizenship is not easy. There are various visas, including a (10 year?) retirement visa, but there are financial and health insurance restrictions. Not to mention foreigners have to report their whereabouts every 90 days or when they move. It looks less attractive all the time.

Ah, my Spanish still needs work, of course dejes instead of deja, but why parta instead of partio? Would past tense not be better here?

Wouldnt grieta work better than partio?
My Spanish is not perfect, but it seems like either partir or agrietar would work, depending upon your desired "nuance".

If she had actually contacted an immigration lawyer and tried to get legal when she was abandoned by her mother here as a minor, she probably could have done so. Instead, she chose to squat unlawfully, like so many others.
