President Trump Meets Pope Francis: ‘I Won’t Forget What You Said’

In what can only be described as a cordial, successful meeting, Pope Francis received U.S. President Donald Trump in the Vatican Wednesday amidst smiles, handshakes and camera flashes.

The two leaders sat down for a half-hour face-to-face meeting, with the Pope leaning out over the table with his arms extended toward the President. On parting ways at the end of the meeting, the President thanked the Pope for his warm welcome, stating, “I won’t forget what you said.”

In its official press release, the Vatican described the meeting as “cordial” and said the two men spoke favorably of “the good existing bilateral relations between the Holy See and the United States of America,” as well as their joint commitment “in favor of life, religious liberty and freedom of conscience.”

This last statement was particularly significant.

While the Catholic Church was often at odds with the Obama administration over the issues of abortion and religious freedom, the Vatican wished to underscore a new common purpose with the United States under the Trump administration on these matters.

All Catholic women are required to wear hat/head covering during service, so naturally it would be same to meet Pope. It is requirement of the religion....not on street or regularly, but in any Mass or Church, The Vatican.

You know, I too sometimes wake up with a hangover and think, “I’ll go with the cargo pants and bed skirt for the win.”

"After his meeting with Pope Francis, President Trump and first lady Melania Trump had a private tour of the Sistine Chapel, whose “Last Judgment” and iconic ceiling featuring the creation of Adam and Eve were painted by Michelangelo."

I almost miss the old threads tearing up Moochie’s fashion choices... the boob belts... the sleeveless outfits in the winter... etc.

Actually I believe this requirement was abolished by VC-II, but I could be wrong. In any case, nowadays very few women wear a head covering at Novus Ordo (new order) Masses. Those who worship at Latin Tridentine (Latin) Masses however, usually do wear a head covering, but those Masses are far and few between.

It’s interesting that we are playing nice with the white robed one, instead of mentioning the nice secure wall with guards to maintain security,. Like what we want for our southern border. He has one, we want one, but he tells us we need to let everyone in, yet the walled “country” the Vatican is very selective. Hmmmm, DBL STD? We certainly are going a long way to play nice just for the cameras and fringe votes. Meanwhile back at home........

It’s not a thing in American churches. I’ve been going to Mass all my life, and i can’t remember needing a chapel veil after about 1970. There is a Latin Rite mass near me where head covering is encouraged, however.

Actually it was changed in 1983, but not all women agree with it.

I am not Catholic, but the Bible actually says women should cover their heads.

You are correct, change in Canon Law 1983, it was omitted.
However many women do not choose to make that change, as Bible stated women should cover their head.....most interpretations took it to be for the Angels. I am not Catholic, but have attended Mass with friends.

Years ago, I read that reference in a letter of Paul to head coverings. It said something like, you should cover it, or you may as well cut it off. I guess it was distracting to the guys during liturgies.

I went, “oh, well”, because I wore my hair short anyway. That lasted the next couple of decades. Now it’s longer again, but I’m way too old and out of shape to distract guys from their prayers, so I’m not too fussed about it.

I was attending a Catholic university in 1983 and I don’t remember the subject of head covering ever coming up at the time, either from “campus ministry” or the “religious studies” department.
