Truth finally told by retired Army officer on General Bradley's staff says his investigation proves Miller died in Paris in December 1944 - Hunton Downs tells MilitaryCorruption.com that a Nazi spy in General Eisenhower's HQ betrayed Miller's mission to meet with German representative of anti-Hitler forces to bring early end to war in Europe. Why would Ike send a musician - of all people - on such a sensitive and important mission?

Great cover! It was commonplace to use wealthy celebrities as spies. For example, Julia Child was an OSS agent operating in the Mediterranean region. Her cover was study of the region's cuisine. Did you ever see her cooking show on TV?

Julia Child

I remember Paul Harvey telling that on the rest of the story. A bomber was dropping it’s load to reduce landing weight and hit Miller’s lower flying plane with a bomb

I don’t think I have read that, pretty sure that’s not it. I kinda think the author was a woman, and I don’t think the title would have referred to post-D-Day intelligence activity specifically. I believe that I have referenced that book in FR in the past, but even that doesn’t narrow down the search much because I have posted a lot over the years, now coming closer to 20, that I have been on board here.

I keep a “cheat sheet” of links, including a number to Amazon Books web site, that I often use to avoid reinventing the wheel. But I looked thru that, and didn’t spot it.

The standard story is that he was on the small plane to France to perform for troops. Seems right, given his prewar fame.

I think the spy rumor was just fiction for morale and motivation.

"...Leonard Nimoy might have even covered this on his television show.... ..."

In Search Of

To a young boy, that show was pretty scary, except the episode about communicating with plants.

Heck, Nimoy even made Nazca Lines come off as ominous and sinister.

If Downs is 90 now he would have been 17 in 1944 when he was an officer on Bradley’s staff. Hmmmmm.....

Bradley served to August 1953. The story never said Downs was on Bradley's staff during the war.

It's very possible he was on Bradley's staff in the late '40s or early '50s.

I'm not saying Downs' claim is correct or true, I'm just saying that the claim he'd have only be 17 in 1944 is not relevant to the article.

From the article:..”the 90 year old Downs says...” That certainly implies that he is 90 now.

“Could it be The Man Without a Name?”

Wasn’t that about creating a ruse that the allies were going to invade Greece with the intention of delaying the start of Operation Barbarossa by making the Germans shore up their southern flank?

says famed band leader’s nude body was dumped outside a Paris brothel.

I believe this as John Kennedy was seen leaving the Paris brothel and stepping over the body as the prostitute was chasing after him as a Kennedy never pays for sex........

Lieutenant General Leslie J. McNair is the general who was killed during the pre-Operation Cobra bombing.

See:

I also wonder why Glenn Miller would have had to been flown into Paris for a secret meeting with the Germans, since the Germans had been chased out of Paris in August, 1944. That also isn’t plausible to me.

Yes, it was. It’s been a long time since I read it, but I thought there was a connection.
